Over and over again, we hear that “It takes a village.” A year ago a village, although a little queer, dreamed of a better Lincoln and created OUTLinc. Today that same village is making OUTLinc an amazing community center.

So I'm writing this post to first apologize for using this venue to vent my frustration and create what could be interpreted as slander. The previous blog, though my honest opinion, was a bit
extreme and way more hetreophobic than I intended. If you didn’t catch it before I made it “friends only”, that

Star City PRIDE is an event that happens each summer, but it is much more than that. I like to think of PRIDE as a family reunion, a movement and the GLBT Interdependence Celebration. We are a large and diverse community, but sometimes it can feel like you are one of the only gay people.
This summer will be my 3rd Star City PRIDE. I turn 40 in April, but I have only been to PRIDE 3 time (and ironically I have worked on it all 3 times). For the first 27 years of my life I was

I almost fell walking out to my car to attend OUTLinc’s setting priorities meeting on Saturday (February 13). So when Heath asked everyone to tell their neighbor what they just love about winter, my first impulse was to let him know where he could stick that particular icebreaker (hint: I almost fell on mine). But his evil plan worked and everyone thought of something they like (I enjoy the extra excuse to cuddle). When it was all over, the group was in a positive frame of mind and ready to get…

I was called a faggot last night.
Standing on a corner downtown with a friend, we debating whether or not to go grab a bite to eat after closing time. Suddenly I heard it. “FAGGOT!” Did I just hear that? Oh yes, It came again. “FAGGOT!” I turned and found the offending voice. Smiled. “Nice,” I said and looked back at my friend. The words continued to come. “Who fucks who?” “Who’s the girl?” It continued for a couple minutes. And I kept smiling.

Victory! On February 2, 2010, the U.S. Tax Court issued an important decision in O’Donnabhain v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, ruling for the first time that treatment for gender identity disorder qualifies as medical care under the Internal Revenue Code, and is therefore deductible.
I'm surprised the whole city of Lincoln didn't hear me yesterday morning when I jumped up in the air and screamed after reading the above statement. I've been following the O'Donnabhain case for the past couple…

My name is Breana Romero, and I am currently recruiting participants for an Honor’s Thesis research project entitled, “Becoming a Family: The Decisions and Support Systems of Same-Sex Parenting.” You are being contacted because you might be or know someone who is interested in participating in this study.
When public discussions of same-sex parenting arise, usually the focus is on the best interest of the children. However, little is known about the decisions and obstacles faced by same-sex cou…

My name is Georgia Feiste, I would like to introduce Rainbow Bridge Coaching and Healing to the OUTLinc community. The group started with three people who really wanted to put together a virtual group of people interested in mind, body, spirit and emotions, and how they work together. It quickly graduated to five people, and has now dropped down to two who are actively involved in putting messages out into the great ether called the Internet, and an occasional contributor, Toning the Om.
I am a…

On March 29, 2009, your community experienced something very special. This was the date of the Lincoln Renaissance meeting, where a group of over 55 people like you came together to share their dreams for the Lincoln LGBT community. We talked about all kinds of dreams, large and small - some that you may share. We talked about community newsletters, gay business directories, film festivals, and same-sex parenting groups. We talked about social events, sports leagues, and gay neighborhoods. We al…

I’ve lived in the Lincoln community for 13 years and have marveled at the positive changes I’ve seen surrounding the treatment of the LGBT community. I’m proud to be employed by an organization that wants to be a part of that change. As of January 13th, Planned Parenthood has begun offering an expansion of services to the transgender community at our “O” Street Clinic in Lincoln.
We now offer hormone therapy and testing in addition to the routine preventative care and STI testing that we provid…

I'm pleased to help announce that the first Louis Crompton Scholarship has been awarded to Jason Lucht of Gretna. If you have not yet made a contribution -- of any amount -- please do so so we may hopefully endow the scholarship this year so many more deserving GLBT students can receive support over the years. It doesn't matter how much you give, but rather that you particpated and can help say "we did it!"

As I pulled my car over at the Unitarian Church's parking lot tonight, I was a little dismayed to see that there were only four cars parked. I walked over to the big glass door and read the sign saying that the Coffee House is at 7.30 to 10 pm or something like that. I went in with no expectation. I've told myself that I need to start getting involved in the community, so I chose to come here instead of spending hours at the gym or being a recluse at home. But this... this is just sad.. The diml…

Twenty-two 22 grown-ups and an infant now have a clearer insight into how to make LGBT families stronger and vibrant.
Monday night I went to the Strong LGBT Families presentation sponsored by OUTLinc, PFLAG and Star City Pride. It was awesome!
Maureen presented her preliminary research findings investigating what makes LGBT families strong. She found some interesting themes such as commitment, shared values, parallel attitudes about how out they were and high level of negotiated responsibiliti…

I’m inviting you to come to church. (Wait – don’t log off yet!)
Now perhaps you’re not religious; you’re agnostic or atheist. That’s fine. I won’t ask you to do something you don’t believe in, so you can skip this if you wish. Of course, I’d like to visit and get to know you and hear your perspectives, but that’s another conversation.
Or perhaps you’ve had a bad experience in a church. Maybe church people or ministers have told you you’re going to hell because you’re GLBT and you want nothing…

“The moral arc of justice is long, but it bends towards justice.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Yesterday's decision by the California Supreme Court to uphold the ban on gay marriage has evoked many emotions. The decision has prompted conflicting emotions even - anger and joy at the same time. Joy for over 18,000 gay couples still married and anger for those denied the right to marry.
As the dust has settled a bit, there have been calls to work through the joy and pain and move forward. There are lo…
